The body of a Russian man found dead in his house on the island of Koh Samui on Friday. His body will be sent to Police General Hospital for a forensic examination to establish the cause of death, police said.

The Russian man was identified as Viacheslav Kolbunov, 51, said Pol Maj Gen Apichart Boonsriroj, the Surat Thani police superintendent. The body was found in a house in Soi Mae Nam 3 in tambon Mae Nam of Ko Samui district. The body of a Dogo Argentino breed of dog was also found. Both were believed to have died at least six days previously.

Pol Maj Gen Apichart said police have collected fingerprints and traces of DNA for examination. A preliminary police investigation found no evidence of a break-in and no indications that the man had died of unnatural causes. The Dogo Argentino that died had suffered from a kidney problem, police said. It had previously been taken to an animal clinic for treatment, but the 1,000-baht bill had not been paid.

Neighbors said the Russian man had lived alone in the house for about ten years. He had a son who worked in China and occasionally came to Ko Samui to visit his father. The son had bought him the Dogo Argentino when it was a puppy.

Pol Maj Gen Apichart said Kolbunov’s body would be sent to the Police General Hospital for a forensic examination to establish the cause of death. He did not mention what might have caused the dog’s death.
